Come on Janie...
Before I relate this cute story, I have to say that this isn't typical. Although Dana and Jane are really beginning to play well together, they generally fight and waste a perfectly good oportunity to have fun (I guess adults aren't much different). Anyway, after their bath tonight, Dana and Jane were having fun using their imaginations together. Jane filled a purple leopard print jewelry box with trinkets and Dana did the same thing with a little tea set carrying case. Then they pretended to leave for work, repeatedly saying goodbye to Matt and I. After awhile, they must have worn out that game. We heard Dana say, "Come on Janie! Let's go to church to worship God!" Janie's face lit up and she said, "Okay Dana."
We were pretty curious to see what that game would look like, so we followed them into their room. They were sitting on their little table and Dana was singing with his hands in the air. Janie said, "Dana, let's worship God." Then Dana said, "We are worshiping God Janie."
Two things: 1) I know I'm biased, but my kids are pretty darn cute. 2) We've been trying to teach Dana and Jane about worship, because we're trying to bring them into the service now. They're not quite ready to listen to the sermon, but they do very well for the bulk of the service. It's been such a joy to teach them about worship and to share that experience with them. I won't pretend that the beginning wasn't hard and embarrassing, but after listening to tonight's conversation between Dana and Jane, it appears that there's a glimmer of something going on in their hearts. I'm so glad God is parenting right along side of us.

How great!!
2 things:
1.) My mom always says she has no greater joy than to see her children walking in the truth. I'll be praying for that same joy for you.
2.) One of my wedding gifts was the book (u>Treasuring God in Our Traditions by Noel Piper (John Piper's wife). It's really short, has a lot of practical, to-the-point advice, and has a short essay at the end giving Noel's advice on training kids to participate in the worship service. You might like it.

One of my favorite memories of Ethan and Sam was when Ethan was about 21/2 and Sam was less than a year old. Ethan was basically trying to force Sam into "playing church" with him. Ethan was Todd, the music director, and had assigned Sam the role of Pastor Caines. I was doing something else, but doubled over in laughter when i heard Ethan's loud singing suddenly interrupted when he yelled, "Oh, no! Pastor Caines is crawling away!"
