the sad truth

DSC02610.JPG

Yesterday, Jane made an important but sad discovery--girls can't pee in the grass. Matt, Dana, and Jane were outside enjoying the fleeting bit of sun we had yesterday, while I was inside. I stepped outside to bring Matt the phone and realized that Jane had taken off. After a quick search, I found her on the side of the house with her pants down. She was trying to pee in the grass, like Dana does, but of course it didn't work and she was soaked down to her shoes.

"Janie Honey, what are you doing?"

"Mama, I go peepee in the gwass!"

"Hmm. Janie, girls can't go peepee in the grass... only boys."

Poor Janie. She looked very confused. We have allowed Dana to pee outside since he started to potty train and now that she's potty training, I'm sure it was a natural connection in her head. For the record, I know that some people think that's gross, but honestly, I think its part of the freedom of being a kid--freedom from a lot of the junk that bogs adults down. The neighbors probably think we're crazy, but we don't disagree with them.

LOL. I think that's pretty funny.

Oh, Karen. You're holding her back. It's not that girls can't pee in the grass. It's just that it's harder for them to. Be an adequate mom: teach her to cop a good squat.

Maybe there's a book I could read. I don't know--How to Teach Your Daughter to Pee in the Grass in Three Days.

Seriously, I know she could theoretically pee in the grass, but imagine the mess and the process. Yuck. Okay, yes I'm anal retentive... another sad truth.

Speaking of peeing in the grass, the other day as I happened down St. Elmo avenue I glanced over at your house and saw a certain cute red head pants down and peeing facing the the passing cars, maybe his way of stickin it to the loud semi trucks and speeders. Anyway it brought a smile. Sounds like little Clara is keeping you busy. It is amazing how much of a hassle it can be to get out with kids and gear in tow. Susan babysat so we could have a date the other night and man I value those moments of quiet so much now. It's just nice to be able to get through a meal and have a conversation too. Let me know if there is any way I could help you get a break or watch your kids or something.
