catching up
This week has been really event-filled. Sunday was Easter and we baptized Clara, so my parents came up for the day. Monday and Tuesday, our friends Nick and Erin Olig and their kids came to visit on their way to Naples. On Tuesday, Matt and Nick went fishing and caught quite a few crappie and a couple nice large mouth bass. Later that day we went up to Cloudland Canyon for a hike. I was really nervous about taking Miss Fussy (aka Clara) with us, but she didn't make a peep the entire time. I forgot how hard the hike back from the waterfall was though. Boy, do my calves hurt. I am very out of shape. Here are a few highlights.
After the Oligs took off Wednesday morning, we got to visit with my grandparents and uncle for a bit, as they were passing through on their way to Naples too. Then, on Thursday we got to spend some time with Erik Hausler, the pastor who married us and who also discipled Matt when he was a teenager. We had the Conrads and the Willisons over for dinner and Erik and the guys recounted some funny stories from mission trips etc. It was a rare treat to see him and to have everyone over. Entertaining is difficult these days, but we really enjoy it when we manage to make it happen.
This morning, Matt took charge of the kids and I declared war on the strawberry plants that have choked out my garden. I took my hoe in hand and ripped out every weed or hint of a weed for hours. I got about 3/4s of the way done and had to stop, but it feels good to have gotten that much done. I was also able to move a lot of the plants that had gotten crowded. Hopefully, my little transplants will do better in their new spots. We'll see.
