catching up yet again
I really need to be more faithful with my entries. It's been quite awhile since my last post and I don't think I have the mental energy to list everything blog-worthy that's happened lately, at least not on this post. I will try to be thorough and brief. Is that possible?
*Clara is now sitting up and spitting profusely. I've had to keep bibs on her around the clock or her clothes are literally dripping. She's also eating quite a bit these days and still taking a bottle at bedtime. And... yes, she is still sleeping through the night!!! I know that God didn't have to do it this way, that He could be teaching me patience in the wee hours of the morning yet, but I'm really thankful to be sleeping now.
*In the past month I finally got my garden under way. I should have some nice Italian zucchini, rhubarb (not Italian), and basil very soon. Everything else is going to be awhile yet.
*Matt led a group of men from his church on a men's retreat to Big South Fork this weekend, thereby leaving me behind with three very dejected kids. Boy did they miss their daddy. We weathered it pretty well, thanks to some friends and my parents, but we're glad to have him home.
*I just started reading Middlemarch by George Eliot. I picked it up at the SEPC yard sale last week. It's a tough read so far, but I haven't read very far into the book yet either. Does anyone know what George Eliot's name really was?
*Also, I just read The Great Divorce, my least favorite book of Lewis', but still a good read. I love the way he usess allegory and his British folklory style to explain things like eternity and sin. I have a very hard time separating the doctrinal truths I believe in from the pictures he's left in my mind.
*Oh, I almost forgot! I cut Matt's hair with clippers! His shaggy do is now 1/4 in. long.

It seems George Eliot's real name was Mary Anne Evans. Stick with it, I think the novel gets better!

Oh yes -- rhubarb -- may I put in a request for some rhubarb when it is ready. . .a certain choir director has requested a strawberry-rhubarb pie. . .which I will make, when I get around to forgiving him. ;-)

That's an odd Matt-specimen.
Have you grown rhubarb down south before? My m-in-law says it won't grow well.

It doesn't grow into a huge patch, like what I've seen in Minnesota, but I have a small plant that I've been working on for the last 4 years. Last year we ate it and it was sooo yummy. From what I hear, the more you cut, the better it grows, so I'm going to be the rhubarb queen this summer! Rhubarb crisp a la mode, strawberry rhubarb pie, rhubarb cake, strawberry rhubarb jam.... you name it, it's probably my favorite.

Nice hair, Matt! My husband has been shaving his head for over 2 years now and loves it. I don't know if he'll ever go back to having 'long' hair.
On a different note, Kat is due on the 23rd. Keep her in your prayers as this is her first child!
Don't you wish you were still in SW FL, what with the tropical storm and all?

Love the hair cut. Also ran across a great recipe for rhubarb cake you might want, Karen. If you can make rhubarb sauce for Dana he will poop regualrly, it's a great laxative. Keep reading the book, it's one of Becky P's favorites. Have had a rough week at work tho none of the drama was about or involving me personally. We lost two tellers on Monday unexpectedly and they were the two who were rather tempestous on occasion, gave me some extra hours. I will put carl and lauren's quilt blocks tog. today through the weekend, hoo-hah! Love, mom
