Monahan update
I went to take out the trash on Monday and I found a huge spider on its web next to our city trash can. I googled it and it appears to be a female argiope spider. My brother-in-law called it a writing spider, as in Charlotte's web. Evidently, these spiders make patterns in their webs similar to the spider in the book. I haven't killed it or attempted to make it move. It's just too beautiful. I know. I'm deathly afraid of snakes, but I like the spider. It's inconsistent, I'm sure. For the record: I would never attempt to touch this spider. That would freak me out. Looking at it is okay, which is more than I can say about snakes.
Dana is 4! If I really think about it, I get overwhelmed by how fast his little life is passing by. It wasn't that long ago that he wanted to nurse every 45 minutes and life seemed to be ticking by, one slow second after another. God is so good. Happy Birthday sweet boy.
Last week, Matt's grandparents came to town and stayed up at Cloudland Canyon in their RV. One day during their stay, they went with us to the aquarium. Before they arrived to go with us, I got the kids ready to go and packed up what we would need. Well, during a 5-minute phone conversation, they completely covered themselves with marker. They drew on their clothes, their bellies, their legs and their faces... very thorough.
Clara is weaned. She's only 8 months old, but two weeks ago, she really cut back on her feedings. We already weren't getting much sleep due to teething, but add to that the fussy feeding sessions I was trying to pull off, and I was crazy. What really pushed me over the edge though, was the biting. One morning, she bit me so hard (three times in a row) that she drew blood. That was it. When she comes at me with her one sharp tooth bared, ready to bite, I refuse to nurse anymore. I don't care if I could have hung in there. There is only so much that a human being can handle in one day and that was too much. So, now the whole family gets to participate, even though she prefers to get her bottles from me.

Happy Birthday Dana!! I knew it was sometime in August!
Lynn wrote about their argiope spider, they named her Argi. http://lynnp.atlblogs.com/archives/006146.html
They had two and the boys were very proud of them.

Yeah, Argie met a fateful end when some freak apparently took a stick and a brick to her while we were gone for the day. Yes, I cried. And I'm still unfashionably pissed. I loved that spider.

I'll have to dig out the photo (from the computer) that I took of the same type of spider in the doorway at St. Elmo Pres church about a year ago.

I had an experience similar to Lynn's last year - our argiope's egg sac was brutally destroyed by a child with a stick, but thankfully Mabel escaped. We enjoyed another argiope this year, but she has already died. I haven't had time to see if she left an egg sac. Last year I was home a lot in the mornings "studying" so I was able to catch her making her web several times - they are really fascinating little creatures!!! Enjoy her! :-)

Ooh, and butterflies were lovin' the flowers her web was in so we got to watch Argie spin and eat over and over again. I loved that stinkin' spider. No signs or argiopes here in Boise this summer. They were everywhere in the ATL last summer.
